Frankenstein in Baghdad

Set in US-occupied, post-2003 Baghdad, the novel follows Hadi, a junk dealer who collects body parts from bombing victims and stitches them together, hoping the dead will receive recognition and a proper burial. When the “corpse” disappears and a wave of uncanny killings begins, Baghdad is gripped by fear and rumors of an impossible criminal who cannot be stopped. Darkly satirical and unsettling, the book uses horror and black humor to explore violence, revenge, and the surreal logic of war.
